The Daydream Club ‘I Will Not Hurt You’ Inspired By A Fan

The Daydream Club release their new single ‘I Will Not Hurt You’ and in one simple act demonstrate all that is good and powerful about music.

The Daydream Club – I Will Not Hurt You

A while ago husband and wife duo The Daydream Club announced their plans to write personalised songs in response to fan requests and stories. ‘I Will Not Hurt You’ is the first glimpse at the output of this bold plan.

The Fan Story

Here at Right Chord Music we always advocate creating a story around your music, but The Daydream Club have really taken that concept to heart. NB. The names of the characters have been changed to protect their privacy.

Adam and Paula (The Daydream Club) received a moving story from a fan, the first line read: “My name is Maria and I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for a stranger who stood up and fought for me when everyone else had given up, even myself.”

One night she couldn’t take any more and decided to take her own life, but Michael (a stranger she had just started messaging online) showed up and stopped her from going through with her plans (this was the first time they would meet in person). He stayed with her through the night to make sure she was safe. Fast-forward in time and Michael has proven to be someone she could trust, they now live happily together with their two children.

“We are honoured that Maria has trusted us with her story, it brought us both to tears on first read and on numerous occasions while writing this song. We decided to write a song for her from Michael’s perspective so that we could express how amazing she is and affirm that she is loved, safe and does deserve to be happy. We hope they have a wonderful life together.” The Daydream Club

‘I Will Not Hurt’ You will forever serve as a time-capsule memory of when light appeared at the end of a very dark tunnel. It’s a reminder there is good in the world and that love really can overcome any adversity.

“My name is Maria and I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for a stranger who stood up and fought for me when everyone else had given up, even myself.”

The stripped-back production draws attention to every honest word of this story while the gospel-inspired swell provides a metaphor for the moment of divine intervention that saved Maria’s life. The decision for Adam to take the lead vocal, only makes this more powerful and he eloquently and sensitively assumes the role of Michael, assuring Maria it’s going to be ok.

It’s hard not to listen to this without emotion flooding your heart, but while it’s a sad story ‘I Will Not Hurt You’ ultimately celebrates all that is good and powerful about humanity and music.
