Rakuda Debut Brighter Than Day With An Indie Sound That Takes Us Back To Better Days

Rakuda

Spotlights on, they’re coming! Hailing from Plymouth, indie rock band Rakuda has just debuted Brighter Than Day, the first single off their upcoming EP.

The band’s ambition is made clear from the start with lyrics such as “I wanna enter your soul and then enter your mind”, they’re setting out to leave their mark in our minds. And, judging by this debut, they sure have the tools.

The song starts with a powerful guitar riff, which is then joined by the percussion and vocals. Subtle phaser pedals add a few more textures during the verses and help the song fill up the room.

Lead vocalist and bassist Josh Greenlees savours every word with all the passion demanded by such self-confident lyrics. His abrasive tone perfectly suits the track’s chutzpah and adds to the delighting overall aggressiveness.

The whole sound hurtles back to 90s’ and 00s’ garage rock, and the band themselves cite Oasis and Kasabian as influences. It surely shows in the cheeky lad rock-ish guitar-driven melody and the hyperbolic, cocky lyrics. “It’s time for the show to begin, so just tell me when the lights go on”, proudly declare our lads before kicking out the chorus: “We’re all brighter than day!”

Along with Greenlees, the band counts on the talent of Cody-James Ackland, who is the main songwriter and lead guitarist, Josh Thompson, who is the rhythm guitarist and Harry Osmond, the drummer. Brighter than the Sun is the lead single off their debut EP, due this summer. Second single Free is out next month.
