Fledgling Ft. Sara Hartman – Flowers on the Pavement

Fledgling is an innovative, collaborative project that is equal parts artist, label and curator. It’s the brainchild of Alfie Jackson (The Holloways) an artist and writer who has amassed over 100,000,000 streams through his co-writing releases with artists such as Barns Courtney (USA), Declan Donovan (UK), OSKA (Austria and Germany), Tom Staar (Germany), Skinny Living (UK). Fledgling aims to help new artists connect with writers, producers and other artists and true to this promise they are kicking off 2023 in some style.

“A beautiful, fitting and poignant tribute to a departed friend.”

Flowers On The Pavement is a song about loss, longing and reflection. It was written after singer, Sara Hartman had received the tragic news that an old school friend had died suddenly. Sara was in the studio with Alfie Jackson and Sven Ludwig at the time, and they had no choice but to write this poignant response.

The emotion in Sara’s vocals is palatable, raw and laid bare. It’s a beautiful, fitting and poignant tribute to a departed friend. During the track, Sara reflects on abiding memories of the times the pair spent together. The chorus is immediately evocative with the repeating refrain “Do you remember when the lights went out in New York” an eternal memory of their time together in NYC during a power cut. And when Sara reaches out in the emotive mid-8 with the line “I wonder where you are now…” you really feel it.

Sven Ludwig’s sympathetic production builds with piano, programmed drums and stirring synths that swell into a full chorus with bass and strings. It beautifully frames the raw emotion of this wintery tribute.

Occasionally you hear a song that sounds like it belongs on a film soundtrack and this is one of those moments. This song and its story deserve the largest possible stage. Listen and share with someone you love today.
