Seth Dollar Reflects On The Past With ‘University Village’

Seth Dollar - University Village

Rather than falling into cliches and overplayed stereotypes in the urban genres Syracuse, New York-based Seth Dollar finds inspiration in his life experiences, resulting in a wholesome sound that brims with nostalgia and lyrical authenticity. His latest piece University Village evidences this, taking us back in time to a relevant period in his life.

Seth Dollar – University Village

Take a small amount of contemporary Hip-hop and a touch of R&B, and what you get is Seth Dollar, an artist with a knack for experimenting and bringing a refreshing twist to these genres. This time he has shared the song University Village, confirming once more his undeniable presence in the underground scene.

Labelling this track as just another Hip-hop/R&B song would be a huge disservice to its cleverly detailed production. Dreamy layered effects and a generous dose of auto-tuned hazy vocals evoke an extremely trippy atmosphere that feels almost balladesque, depicting Seth’s memories effortlessly through a marvellous nostalgia trip.

As mentioned earlier, University Village gets its inspiration from a past experience in Seth’s life, more specifically, his college years:

I wrote the song personally from my own experiences in school; having the freedom of living off-campus and the world of it in itself. Some of my first experiences with women I hold dear to my inspiration and process to this day. My coming of age story and era“. Said the performer.

University Village is an out-of-the-box jam, excelling at catching your attention with its unorthodox style.

Seth Dollar is undeniably a different type of beast in the Hip-hop game. The careful and well-rounded arrangements, in addition to the deeply personal lyrics, make this artist an act that you should totally pay attention to in the foreseeable future.
