Blog Takeover Part 2. Guest Editor Steve Jones From ‘Stylus Boy’

Hi, I’m Steve and I sing and play guitar in Stylusboy (@stylusboy on Twitter) which used to be a solo folk project but is now a duo with the lovely Rachel Grisedale (@rai_chull on Twitter). We have been described as ‘enchanting lo-fi folk’ by The Music Abyss. We have recently released a six track live session we recorded especially for a German music blog called ‘Session for the Heilewelt’. It can be download for FREE here

Next we want you to tell us about your favourite new music.

Flight Brigade – Turncoat

This band are brilliant and their little videos are brilliant too. The band play folk prog rock, if you can imagine that. Each song has its own gentle emotional melody that is underpinned by intricate and intense rhythms that really pull the listener in. I have seen them live twice and was completely blown away both times. They are currently working on their debut album. Find out more and download a free EP here.

Jose Vanders – Mother Theresa Can’t Dive

Jose is a very talented 22 year old lady from London who plays wonderful piano pop that echos Polly Paulusma or maybe Ben Folds. She has been playing live some time and has had some amazing coverage on radio and in the press. I saw her live recently and completely loved her performance; quirky, funny and stuffed full of charm, melody and poetic lyrics. Find out more here.

Goodnight Lenin – Crook In The Creek

Goodnight Lenin are from Birmingham and make lovely harmony lead folk music. This 5 piece have 3 lead singers who harmonize like a folky Beach Boys. I saw them live a few months ago at Warwick Arts Centre and they were brilliant. Currently working on their debut album and an EP, they are going be busy boys over the next few months. The Young Runaways – Closer

The Young Runaways are another Birmingham band who make folk music (they happen to be good friends with Goodnight Lenin too!). They are an intriguing band that remind me a little of Arcade Fire. They feature a violin, trumpet and really lovely harmonies. Slowly recording some great songs and playing excellent live shows I predict really big things for this band. Find out more here.
