Jayo Tackles The Subject of Blood Diamonds On New Single ‘Diamonds’

Inspired by icons such as Kanye West, Lauryn Hill, and Kendrick Lamar, British rapper Jayo has been in the Hip-hop game since 2012, honing his craft and evolving into a versatile artist. Counting already with a robust collection of singles, Jayo’s newest addition Diamonds is a well-considered jam about a controversial subject.

Jayo – Diamonds

From an early age, Jayo got exposed to music thanks to his father, an established music journalist, this occurrence would shape his path to become the performer he is today. So far, he has received support from BBC Hotlisted, Wonderland Magazine, and Clash Magazine.

For his newest delivery called Diamonds, Jayo has teamed up with East London rapper Kieron Boothe, a renowned underground artist praised by the likes of Trench and GRM.

High-pitched vocal effects kick off this jam, followed by chill beats and a small narrated intro that puts this melody into context. Jayo’s flow is smooth, complemented by his deep vocal work, which contrasts positively with Kieron’s faster and edgier delivery.

Inspired by the acclaimed film Blood Diamond, Jayo wrote this piece thinking about the double meaning that diamonds can have. For many people, these gems are valuable and synonymous with status and wealth, but for some others (especially those familiar with African cultures), there is a history of hard work, violence, and conflict attached to these precious stones. That clash of ideas makes this song splendidly absorbing.

“Fueled by its meaningful social commentary, Diamonds shines bright”.

There is a little bit of everything in Jayo’s sound that will appeal to both old and new Hip-hop fans. From his engaging lyricism to his MC skills Jayo seems more than ready to take the world by storm.
