GAREK is a New York based singer-songwriter. Born and raised in Wisconsin, he made the transition to New York in 2010. His music fuses Industrial Rock (a la Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson and Garbage) with haunting melodies and explosive choruses. GAREK creates powerful and distinct sonic landscapes, but it’s use of video that really brings his music to life and made us sit up and take notice. This is an artist ready for a global audience.
This isn’t a love song. Cavity tells of a loss of power through mental illness. GAREK himself has battled severe Obsessive Compulsive Disorder since the age of 12yrs old. The idea behind the song and video is to explore what the physical manifestations of mental illness might look like as it attacks the brain and the body. Cavity refers to the crack in himself where all the anxiety comes from. Despite the darkness of the subject matter, GAREK creates work of true visual beauty.
Check out GAREK’s début single “Save The Queen” a somewhat lighter and more playful introduction to his music and artistry. GAREK is this week’s First Signs of Love featured artist, and we can’t wait to hear and see more.
