Tizane – Forever Is Nothing

The opening track of Tizane’s new album, “Off The Edge,” sets the tone for the rest of the record. It starts with atmospheric guitar, reminiscent of the sound on Tizane’s previous album, it kicks into a rockier, edgier sound in the chorus, easily bringing us into the world of this new record. This mix of dynamics is something heard throughout the album, as Tizane shifts easily from soft and slow to raw and powerful, often within the same track. You never know what’s coming next, and it keeps you on the edge of your seat.

There are multiple tracks on the album that showcase Tizane’s softer sound. ‘When The Ravens Leave’ starts slowly with a simple acoustic guitar underpinning the fragile vocals. It’s reflective and, even when its energy picks up in the chorus, there is a melancholic feel throughout. ‘I’m Not Her’ also showcases this energy, displaying a powerful vulnerability in the opening of the song, with pretty instrumentation creating a delicate backdrop for Tizane’s vocals. The strings on the second verse add a cinematic, fantastical feeling to the song that pulls on the heartstrings.

‘Small World’ follows as the next song on the album and, suddenly, it makes you sit up straight. It launches into rough, quick-paced guitar, with a verse that feels filled with tension, as though there’s energy ready to burst straight through. Moving into a melodic chorus, Tizane’s vocals shift throughout from punchy, to haunting, to rich and powerful. With verses and a bridge that make you want to dance, an anthemic chorus, and Tizane’s siren-like vocals pulling you in, this is a strong reflection of the scope of Tizane’s talent.

‘Small World’ sits alongside other more rock-influenced songs on the album. The second track, ‘Tell Me The End’ hits us with powerful vocals, punchy drums, and strong guitar work throughout. It combines a dark angsty atmosphere with a catchy chorus reminiscent of pop-punk’s heyday ‘Why Not Me’ stands up as another great rock song on the album and potentially one of Tizane’s strongest vocal performances on the entire album. They push us forwards throughout the song, building to a moment in which the instrumentals cut out entirely, leaving us to appreciate the raw power of Tizane’s vocals.

Every Minute, co-written with former MUD guitarist Rob Davis, offers a shift between fragile verses and a punchier, catchy chorus. It’s an ode to carpe diem – “I’m living in the here and now.” – and the chorus perfectly captures the energy and recklessness this sentiment calls for. ‘Who’s Gonna Hurt Me Now’ also explores Tizane’s range of dynamics, a song that explores pain whilst still feeling powerful It has a balladic feel to it, with strong electric guitar that adds a lick of something edgier. A highlight is the impressive guitar solo with retro roots in ‘80s rock and stands out as a unique addition to the album’s overall sound.

Closing the album is the title track ‘Forever Is Nothing’, a song that leaves us with a reminder of the breadth of Tizane’s talent and the places she can go to. From powerful to soft, she covers so many bases that it’s truly impressive. With interesting production, more evocative vocals, and a tender quality throughout, this track encapsulates all that Tizane has to offer.

Forever Is Nothing” is a compelling album that showcases Tizane’s growth as an artist. The mix of atmospheric sounds and rock influences, combined with catchy melodies, powerful vocals, and poetic lyrics, creates a captivating listening experience. The album highlights Tizane’s dynamic range and ability to evoke emotions, that will leave a lasting impression on listeners and have them wanting more.
