Tim Gambles’ latest release, ‘Story Told Wrong,’ began as a playful EDM experiment and evolved into an alternative rock tale.
Tim Gambles – Story Told Wrong
Tim Gambles, a Tasmanian-born and North East–based alternative rock artist and multi-instrumentalist, takes inspiration from the contrasts and tensions of modern society. His music often reflects the interplay between the natural and industrial worlds, exploring how they exist in a constant symbiotic relationship, embracing both the beauty and the challenges within that balance.
Raised in a musical family, with both parents as musicians, and inspired by icons like Chris Cornell and Muse, Tim Gambles has been immersed in music since childhood. At 16, he committed fully to his craft, working tirelessly to earn a reputation as a standout live performer, a goal many would say he’s achieved. Over the years, he has taken the stage at Tasmania’s Festivale (with a capacity of 10,000) multiple times, including main stage appearances, become a familiar presence in Melbourne’s live music scene, and performed extensively across the UK and Europe.
For his latest release Story Told Wrong, it may come as a surprise that Tim Gambles first began the project as an EDM experiment. After collaborating with a local songwriter, the track’s structure was reimagined and transformed into something distinctly “Gambles-esque.” The result is a rich, guitar-driven narrative exploring themes of miscommunication, hindsight, and the way stories can become distorted, whether within relationships or in the depths of personal memory.
The track begins with a calm, almost deceptive intro, but expectations shift the moment lively guitars burst in, filling the melody with vibrant energy. Driven by Tim Gambles’ catchy, high-pitched vocals, the song builds toward an invigorating guitar solo that leaves a lasting spark.
“Story Told Wrong is an energising, wild, and infectious listen, a quintessential Tim Gambles track that perfectly captures his style. It’s the kind of song that invites you to experience his artistry firsthand.”
Story Told Wrong marks the start of an exciting new chapter in Tim Gambles’ career, serving as the first of several releases planned for the months ahead, accompanied by even more live shows. With plenty in the works, Tim Gambles is gearing up to make a strong statement this year.
