The Kid and I Explore Discuss Self Worth On ‘Heart Strings’

The Kid and I return with a stoner-infused alt-rock anthem, Heart Strings is a superb combination of heavier guitar work and catchy vocals.

The Kid and I – Heart Strings

Formed in 2020, The Kid and I are a vibrant alt-rock outfit hailing from London. With influences ranging from Foo Fighters to Elliot Smith, the band’s blend of heavier textures and silkier undertones serves as a launching pad for their both incisive and contemplative lyricism.

Having recently been finalists for the Roundhouse Unsigned competition and opening for none other than The Animals, the group has been building a recent momentum and should reach greater heights soon enough, with the recently released single ‘Heart Strings’ being another step in this journey.

The song starts off with fuzzy stoner riffs somewhat in the vein of Kyuss and Queens Of Stone Age before the heavy-hitting drumming kicks in and propels the song into hard rock territory. We are then treated to a more vigorous, rougher vocal approach a la Jimmy Eat World during the verses while the choruses feature harmonized, Queen-like vocals.

The lyrics address a failed love affair and the heartbreak, obsession, and self-worth issues that come along, with the abrasive mid-song guitar solo capturing this whirlwind of complex emotions.

‘Heart Strings’ is yet another single that displays The Kid And I’s ability to write great, compelling alt-rock. One should keep an eye on this promising London group for more catchy and thoughtful music of this kind, which is something they most likely will keep delivering.
