Madrai’s ‘Turn It Around’ delivers classic pop-rock with a groovy twist, setting the scene for the Belfast-based band’s upcoming EP.
Madrai ‘Turn It Around’
After a sold-out debut show at Ulster Sports Club as well as a nomination for Single of the Year at the Northern Ireland Music Prize, Madrai’s debut ‘Leaving on My Own’ in July 2024 saw the band already amassing acclaim – now with their upcoming EP, the band build on this momentum with vibrant second single ‘Turn It Around’.
Recorded in Belfast’s 1980something studios, the track was produced by local legends, mixed by Jonny Woods of Wynona Bleach and mastered by Jon Moorehead. The band states this track ‘captures the frustration of feeling stuck – and the fight to rediscover your sense of purpose’. The lyrics are raw and self-aware but accompanied by synthy, disco-tinged guitars and stellar vocal harmonies that keep the mood high.
While the band are carving out their own style, influences of artists such as Kings Of Leon and John Mayer definitely shine through, achieving a sound that is both familiar and fresh.
“Introspective yet infectious, ‘Turn It Around’ is a track that is as relatable as it is danceable. “
Their EP ‘What I’m Doing This For’ is set to release later this year, and as Madrai have already begun to cement a well-deserved place for themselves within the local scene, they are sure to see more success.
