Jos McLaren takes a moment to recognise the tenacity and resilience of those who keep going.
Jos McLaren – You Wear It Well
Jos Mclaren is determined to give you your flowers. So many people walk among us day to day, carrying the weight of the world, and we often have no idea.
How many people do you know who suffer from an underlying illness? Yet they get up and out every day and take care of their business. Quietly going about their day, trying not to draw attention to themselves.
How many single parents do you know who somehow manage to make ends meet every month – despite this unbelievable economic hellscape we’re all currently living in?
How many immigrants? Who’ve been forced to flee a place full of danger only to come to a place riddled with discrimination and hate. The things that people have to push through to get from one day to the next is truly awe-inspiring, and this song – this beautiful, tender, moving, heartfelt song – is for them.
As someone who is living with stage 4 cancer, it’s fair to say that Jos is also one of these people. On You Wear it Well she blends elements of First Aid Kit, Lillie Mae, Sixpence None The Richer and The Shires; we’re certain that her songwriting will bring comfort to many.
A life-affirming slice of folky positivity, the Leeds-based singer-songwriter marked this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week with the release of this song, but it’s as poignant today as it was then.
Jos shares: “I wrote this for the people I love who are carrying so much, yet still show up for others every single day. Their strength and kindness through everything they’re facing inspire me every day.”
What a beautiful sentiment, wonderfully executed.
