Singer-songwriter Alina returns with Silk or Corduroy, a vibrant and heartfelt invitation to embrace joy and live fully.
Alina – Silk or Corduroy
Originally from Bristol and now based in Brighton, Alina has spent the past five years carving out her path as an independent artist, steadily evolving with each release and building her identity both musically and personally.
What began as a simple diary entry eventually grew into Silk or Corduroy, Alina’s latest track and a melodic reflection on embracing love and making the most of every moment. As she explains, the song draws on a vivid metaphor to capture that spirit:
“Silk is a soft material that glides across your skin, evoking sexiness, and a feminine, adult image – bedsheets, pyjamas, little black dresses or even bow ties. Corduroy, however, is rough and durable, emanating a more casual, genderless, perhaps youthful undertone – dungarees, kids clothes, trousers. The idea of ‘Silk or Corduroy’ is that no matter who you are or how you present yourself to the world, you are never the wrong type of person to “Go out, choose joy, dance in silk or corduroy”.”
Silk or Corduroy opens with gentle piano and Alina’s soothing vocals, setting a reflective tone that unfolds through its understated, solemn instrumentation. Subtle guitar lines deepen the introspective mood until the chorus arrives with a surge of energy, marked by bold riffs and a more expressive vocal delivery from Alina. A standout moment comes in the bridge, where layered backing vocals, provided by Alina’s friends, create a warm, communal atmosphere that mimics the sound of a crowd.
“With its heartfelt lyrics and reflective arrangement, Silk or Corduroy offers a pop experience that’s both thoughtful and inviting, one that’s likely to find its way onto repeat.”
With Silk or Corduroy, Alina demonstrates growth in both her songwriting and performance, embracing vulnerability and genuine emotion. This release marks a clear step forward in the right direction.
