Whissker are taking over the local post-punk scene with their catchy melodies and recognisable vocal sound, but who are they? Let’s find out!
Whissker – Cassiopeia
Emerging from Glasgow’s live scene, five-piece post-punk outfit Whissker began by cutting their teeth at open mic nights across the city. Their sound blends driving basslines, groovy drum rhythms, and sharp, distorted guitar riffs, while reverb-soaked vocals add an unmistakable 80s post-punk edge, giving their music a raw, authentic feel.
The band has already caught attention with features on BBC Introducing and Amazing Radio. Their debut single, Moonbreak (2024), introduced listeners to their punchy riffs and heavy basslines, while their follow-up single Juno (2025) racked up over 30,000 streams. With its mellow summer vibe and trademark bass groove, Juno set the stage perfectly for their debut EP, Cassiopeia.
Did you know?
In Greek mythology, Cassiopeia was a queen punished by the gods for boasting about her beauty. She was cast into the heavens, where her distinctive constellation remains visible all year round.
The EP’s lead single and title track, Cassiopeia, captures the essence of Whissker’s sound. Warped, detached vocals cut through sharp, looping guitar riffs, while the bass stays heavy and moody. A sloshy hi-hat rhythm, anchored by deep bass drum and toms, pulls everything together into a track that feels tense, raw, and uncompromising.
Whissker have the potential to become something pretty spectacular in the next few years to come. Make sure you check them out!
