Freya Magee steps into the spotlight with Duplicity, a debut that blends folk-inspired melodies with cinematic textures.
Freya Magee – Duplicity
With roots in Melbourne and a heart anchored in London, Freya Magee is a promising new presence in the independent circuit, channelling the vibe and sonic intricacies of artists like Phoebe Bridgers, Gracie Abrams, and Holly Humberstone.
Freya Magee’s artistic journey began in 2020, during the height of the pandemic, when she picked up a guitar for the first time and started writing songs in her bedroom, unaware that these early ideas would later shape the foundation of her sound. After relocating to London, she began performing at local pubs, eventually connecting with producer Phil Taylor at Laurel Sound Studios, where they recorded what would become her debut single, Duplicity.
With her debut single, Freya Magee puts her songwriting to the test, delivering a track that delves deep into themes of identity and conflicting expectations. Duplicity explores the emotional weight of feeling torn between different versions of oneself. Reflecting on the meaning behind the song, Freya shares:
“It’s about the ache of wanting to live every version of your life at once. “‘Duplicity’ is what plays when you’re driving away from something, then slowly realising you’re also driving toward something.”
Built around delicate guitar strumming, Duplicity creates a soothing atmosphere through its thoughtful production, each note drawing you in as the introspective storytelling unfolds. Freya Magee’s soft, airy vocals guide the track with an almost angelic quality.
“Duplicity is a stunning example of balanced production paired with deeply emotional songwriting.”
If Duplicity caught your attention, there’s good news, Freya Magee is already working on her debut EP, expected to build on the rich production and emotional depth showcased in this single. Stay tuned for updates on this exciting upcoming release.
