Dreaming of Citra put us in a trance with their new single ‘Hostage’, a track you won’t want to wake up from.

Dreaming of Citra – Hostage

Dreaming of Citra are a 5-piece indie-rock band from Manchester. Meeting each other through adverts on JoinMyBand, they quickly formed a talented lineup, creating dance-inducing yet emotionally charged music. They previously released the singles ‘Sunset Kisses’ in 2023, which was featured on BBC Introducing ‘Bitter’, and ‘Out There Somewhere’ in 2024. Now, they’ve come back with a vengeance with their latest single ‘Hostage’ an infectious, carefree tune that’ll get anyone up dancing!

The first thing we hear in the track are echo-laced vocals, washed in reverb. From here, we delve straight into the single with a clean and rhythmic bassline, along with a hook-laden guitar riff. An ethereal vocal track emerges, evoking a sense of whimsy, like clouds drifting over the instrumental. We then reach the chorus for the first time, which feels like a sonic haze, blurring the lines between imagination and reality, making us feel as if we’re completely in a dream state.

We’re then thrown back into the real world, the vocals are still whimsical, but that prominent bass and catchy guitar riff we heard before burst straight back in, snapping us instantly out of the daydream we were just lost in during the chorus.

“This single is like a gentle trance you don’t want to break out of.”

During the second verse, we hear the lyrics: “Told you not to worry, told you not to fret, I’m not looking for anyone else,” which gives us the story behind the song—perhaps being infatuated with someone, not only wanting them and nobody else, but also wanting them to be just as lovesick for you. We get this idea again from the lyrics in the bridge: “Think about me and take me hostage,” leading effortlessly into the outro of the song, where it fades away seamlessly.
