Earn Money From Music Sync

putyourmusicrowork

One of the biggest challenges facing new, unsigned and independent artists is making enough money to produce and release music. To help you unlock additional revenue we have partnered with a sync agency called theComposers.TV and their publishing arm Sing A Simple Song.

Scroll to the bottom of this page, complete two simple steps and start putting your music to work. Or read the frequently asked questions.

What is sync?

In basic terms sync refers to the act of placing music in adverts, TV shows, films and computer games.

Who are theComposers.TV?

theComposers.TV  have sourced music for a host of leading global brands including British Airways, Coors, Emirates, Heinz,Puma, Samsung and Volkswagon.

And who are Right Chord Music (RCM)?

RCM was founded by Mark Knight, a passionate music fan and experienced marketing consultant. We champion incredible new and undiscovered music via the RCM blog, Lost On Radio podcast, innovative #RCMHangout Sessions and a range of music marketing services and guides.

What are we doing and why is it different?

Most sync agencies focus on sync in TV ads. However, most major TV ad sync jobs feature major label,  high-profile artists, and high-profile songs. So we have decided to focus on TV shows and film instead. Traditionally this music has been sourced from music libraries, but increasingly producers and film-makers are requesting exciting, real music rather than incidental library music. This represents a great opportunity for independent artists to earn money from sync.

What’s the business model?

Our plan is to give producers, editors, directors and music supervisors free access (no upfront fee) to our music catalogue, removing any barriers, and encouraging use. You will be paid from the back-end royalties, which can be big, especially if we get your music on multi-territory, long running TV programming. In this case backend royalties far out way any front end sync fees.

Who owns the music?

You own the music, we are simply licensing it out for use. We never own it, it’s yours! Whenever an opportunity to place your music arises we will contact you to ask your permission. No music is placed anywhere without your consent.

How do artists get paid?

Every track added to our catalogue is electronically tagged, so whenever your music is used royalties payments are automatically collected by your performance rights society (In the UK that is the PRS).

How do Right Chord Music and theComposers.tv get paid?

For any music that is used for TV shows or films (the aim of this catalogue) where there is no sync fee, you would get 100% of the writers share and we (Right Chord Music and theComposers.TV each get 50/50 on the publishing share of all royalties received.

In real terms if royalties payments totalled £2,000. You would get £1,000 Right Chord Music would get £500 and theComposers.tv would get £500. Simple.

What about TV ads?

As we mentioned above, it’s tough getting unsigned bands placed in major TV adverts. But that’s not to say it doesn’t happen. Once we have your music in our catalogue we can automatically pitch it for TV ads. If we are successful in finding a match for your music, you will receive an upfront fee. Fees are totally variable but can range from £1,000 to £40,000 depending on usage and client budgets. So by adding your music to our catalogue there are two ways you can earn money. 1. Upfront sync fees and 2. Backend royalties.

What if I have another sync agency or publisher?

This is a non-exclusive deal. This means you can continue to use your music elsewhere, or with other sync agencies. We will accept one weeks’ notice, if you want to take your tracks out of our catalogue.  Just contact us and within 14 days your tracks will be removed from our catalogue.

There will be no duplication of usage / reporting if you have your tracks in other non exclusive libraries, as all tracks in our catalogue will have ‘SaSS’ (Sing A Simple Song – our publishing company name) suffixed at the front. e.g ‘SaSS_SongTitle’. We have been busy setting in place collection partners in all worldwide territories so collection is straightforward.

So while you are waiting to be snapped up by that major publishing company why not put your music to work with us.

What kind of music can I submit?

The songs you submit must be your own. We do not except cover versions or any tracks that infringe on other copyrights, or feature samples not owned by you. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. We will need high quality WAV files, (no MP3s) of both the full track and the instrumental.

How do I get started in two steps?

1. Sign and return this contract including your artist PRS number (we can’t pay you without a PRS number)

2. Please send all tracks via DropBox or an equivalent large file transfer site.

If you have any further questions, please get in touch via our contact form.
